Detours ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Pixel & Parse LLC. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Detours iOS app, how we use it, and your choices. By using Detours, you agree to the practices described here.
Location data. If you grant location permission, your GPS coordinates are used on-device to show nearby incidents on the map and to evaluate whether an incoming push notification falls within your alert area. In addition, a single, most-recent approximate location point (accurate to roughly one kilometer) is transmitted to our servers and stored in association with your anonymous device ID, solely to match incoming incidents to your alert area before dispatching a push notification. Each new location overwrites the previous one — we never store a history of your movements. This location is never shared with third parties and is deleted when your device record is removed.
Alert area (radius). If you set a radius-based alert area, we store the approximate center coordinate of that radius on our servers in order to match incoming incidents server-side before dispatching a push notification. This coordinate represents a location you chose as your alert center — not your real-time GPS position. It is stored only in association with your anonymous device ID and is never used for any purpose other than notification matching.
Alert area (custom zone). If you draw a custom alert zone, the coordinates of that custom zone are stored on our servers and used solely to determine whether an incident falls within your defined area. Custom zone coordinates may reflect a sensitive area such as your home, neighborhood, or commute route. They are associated only with your anonymous device ID, are never shared with third parties, and can be deleted at any time by removing the custom zone in the app or contacting us.
Device identifier. We generate a stable, anonymous device ID stored in your device's Keychain. This ID is used to register your push notification preferences on our server. It is not linked to your name, Apple ID, or any other personally identifiable information.
Push notification preferences. Your alert settings — including selected highways, severity level, category filters, alert area, and notification schedule windows — are synced to our server so we can deliver relevant alerts. This data is associated only with your anonymous device ID.
APNs token. We receive an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) token from your device to deliver push notifications. This token is stored on our server and associated with your device ID and preferences. It is never shared with third parties.
Live Activity tokens (Pro). If you track an incident using Live Activities, a separate per-incident push token is stored on our server to deliver Lock Screen and Dynamic Island updates for that incident. This token is deleted when you stop tracking the incident or when the incident clears.
Subscription status (Pro). We receive your subscription status (active or inactive) from RevenueCat and store it in association with your anonymous device ID so that Pro features work correctly. We do not receive or store your payment details, Apple ID, or purchase history.
Crash and error reports (Sentry). Detours uses Sentry to automatically detect app crashes, freezes, and errors so we can find and fix them. When one occurs, Sentry collects technical diagnostic information such as your device model, iOS version, and a stack trace of the code involved. Sentry assigns your installation a random identifier that is separate from, and not linked to, your Detours device ID, name, or Apple ID — this identifier resets if you delete and reinstall the app. Separately, Sentry's infrastructure derives an approximate, city-level location from the network connection your device makes when sending a crash report. We have not configured Sentry to collect or store your IP address itself, but this coarse, city-level location may still be recorded as part of Sentry's crash-reporting infrastructure. This is unrelated to, and separate from, the precise GPS location described above — it is never used for incident-matching or alert delivery. Crash reporting only becomes active after you have reviewed and accepted this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service, and stops immediately if you do not accept them.
Usage analytics (TelemetryDeck). Detours uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-focused analytics service, to understand how the app is used — for example, which screens are opened — so we can improve it. TelemetryDeck generates an anonymous, cryptographically hashed identifier for your installation directly on your device before anything is sent; we do not provide TelemetryDeck with your name, email address, GPS location, or any other information that could identify you personally. As with crash reporting above, this only becomes active after you accept this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
Automatically collected information. Like most internet services, our servers and content delivery infrastructure automatically record limited technical information when your device connects — including IP address, request timestamps, and request metadata. This information is used only for security, debugging, and service operation. It is retained for a limited period consistent with our infrastructure providers' standard log retention, and is not used to identify or track individual users.
We use the information described above solely to operate the Detours service:
Your preferences and device ID are stored on Railway's infrastructure (PostgreSQL). Incident data is cached on Cloudflare R2 and served globally. We use HTTPS for all data in transit. We do not store payment card details; all subscription billing is managed by Apple and RevenueCat.
No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. We take reasonable steps to protect your data but cannot guarantee absolute security.
Your device registration and preferences are retained as long as the app is installed and active. If your APNs token becomes permanently invalid (Apple returns a 410 response), your device record is automatically removed from our servers. Live Activity tokens are removed when you stop tracking an incident or the incident clears. You can also request deletion at any time by contacting us.
Detours is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined by the CCPA. Because we collect no name, email, or account identity, requests are fulfilled at the device level using your anonymous device ID. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on this page with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of Detours after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
